August 25 - 31
Bye bye, so long, farewell!
Before you know it, you'll be picking apples and making pumpkin pie. So live easy while you still can!
Find your park!
Today, August 25, marks the 100th birthday for the National Park Service. The 2016 Centennial is an opportunity to introduce and reintroduce the National Park Service to all Americans, elevating their awareness, and providing new opportunities to enjoy these incredible resources. If you haven't already, make this the day you begin!
In 1933, Morristown was added to the NPS and became
America’s first National Historical Park. Visitors can find something of our national identity and solemn splendor in the historic structures and the woodland knolls where General George Washington and his army found refuge in the hard winter of 1779-1780. After the last Patriot soldier left Morristown in 1782, it was almost one-hundred years until four men rescued the Ford Mansion from a dubious fate at auction. The decision to pool their funds and secure the building and grounds was the genesis of the
Washington Association
which became the principal caretaker of the property, only the third historic home to be preserved in the United States. Over the next fifty years the Association assembled a remarkable array of period artifacts, books and manuscripts that resides at the
Washington Headquarters Museum.

Walpack Village in the Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area
On the western edge of the Skylands universe, the fiftieth anniversary of Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area in 2015, which roughly coincides with this year's National Park Service Centennial, invites reflection on the past—and a focus on the future.
There are so many ways to enjoy this wonderful place: take drive up the Old Mine Road, a hike in the Water Gap, or a dip in Blue Mountain Lake. Launch an expedition from the Mohican Outdoor Center, take a class at Peters Valley Craft Center, or a walk through Millbrook Village. It's a big place so get started!
Pre-owned vehiclesThe Bohemian Quartet returns to Ramsaysburg
Adaptive reuse of historic structures that otherwise may have long disappeared from our landscape is gratifying. You can see why this weekend at two of our area's prime examples.
Farmstead Arts, located on the grounds of the Kennedy Martin Stelle (KMS) Farmstead, located at 450 King George Road in Basking Ridge, is much more than a vestige of Bernards Township’s rural past. Today, the eighteenth century farmstead, which is listed on the Federal and New Jersey Registers of Historic Places, is a vibrant arts center and serves as a model for adaptive reuse of an historic treasure. On Friday, August 26, enjoy an evening of great guitar playing featuring California Guitar Trio member Bert Lams and Chapman Stick Player Tom Griesgraber. Click for tix.
The restoration project at Knowlton Township's historic Ramsaysburg Homestead has come a long way; so far that the high ceilings of a historic country barn will reverberate with the emotive organic sounds of classical strings in the final installement of this year's Barn Concerts at Ramsaysburg with the Bohemian Quartet at 6pm (gates open at 5) on Saturday, August 27. Come early and take a look around! The Ramsaysburg Homestead is located on the banks of the Delaware River
on Route 46 at Ramseyburg Road in Delaware, NJ. For more information, click or call 908/475-5352.
