Christmas Tree Growers in Sussex County

By Donna Traylor

Over the river and through the woods... it's Christmas Tree season in Sussex County. Whether you want to cut the perfect tree or bring home a live tree to plant in your yard, providing your family with years of enjoyment, Sussex County is a great place to look!

There are 36 Christmas Tree growers who grow Colorado blue spruce, Norway spruce, Douglas fir, White pine, Scotch pine and the perennial favorite, balsam fir. Although most farms offer the ideal living room size trees, there are several specialty growers that sell trees in the 40 foot range.

Cutting your own Christmas tree can be a day-long event. Many farms offer hot cider, visits from Santa Claus and handmade Christmas ornaments and decorations. You should call ahead for specific directions and times of operation. Remember, some farms may sell out their stock early. And consider combining your tree cutting experience with a visit to a farm that offers agriculture educational opportunities or year round products like cheese or eggs.

Am living in Denville. Where might the best (closest) farm be to cut your own tree.
